I graduated from the European Shiatsu School in 1994 after completing their three-year Professional Training course. I am a registered member of the Shiatsu Society (FWSS) and I am covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance.
Shiatsu has played a pivotal part in my life. Over twenty years ago, following a family bereavement, shiatsu became a stepping-stone to my recovery. I enrolled on a weekend course, and realised that I had found the career change I was looking for, a job I felt passionate about that touched my heart and soul.
My many years of dance training had already given me an insight into the workings and malfunctions of the physical body, and by 1997 I had passed the Shiatsu Society independent assessment which enabled me to become listed on their register of professional practitioners (MRSS).
After 24 years of practice I'm still amazed at the ways in which Shiatsu can touch our lives, by helping to bring clarity, cohesion, and a sense of connection to the fragmented feelings we experience within, or simply by helping us to heal and come to terms with a physical injury.
Until the outbreak of Covid 19 I had been employed by the NHS, working within the Mental Health sector for fifteen years. I work with a range of issues ranging from anxiety and severe depression, to bipolar disorder and psychosis. I also have a private practice, and run a clinic for the over 50’s where I have gained expertise in addressing many of the common problems associated with ageing including menopausal symptoms, structural problems e.g. back pain, loss of mobility, frozen shoulder, and recovery from injury and major surgery such as joint replacement.
My knowledge of both our physical and mental frailties are brought together in my Shiatsu treatments. Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu embraces our entire being without distinction between our emotional and physical states.
